Lotus Alliance Wellbeing CIC

Help the Community to 'Preserve Life'

What we do as a C.I.C Company
(Community Interet Company)

Lotus Clinics of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture is a part of Lotus Alliance Wellbeing C.I.C., which is a Community Interest Company. The clinic is the main business actitivity in order to support the company's existence. Lotus Alliance Wellbeing CIC's main purpose is to promote Chinese Medicine philosophy in the community and look after the  single-living elderly's wellbeing.

The philosophy of Chinese Medicine is that maintaining health overweighs treating diseases, and it developed a rich amount of health wisdom in lifestyle, diet, exercising etc. Since the days of the well-known Chinese classics, the HuangDi NeiJing (Huangdi lived in about 2200 BC and the book was complied in Han Dynasty about 200 AD), '养生Yangsheng' (Meaning preserving life) remained as the core health guideline, and was deeply embedded in Chinese culture.

In the case when people do get ill, Chinese medicine believes in treating the person, not the disease. In most cases, diagnosis is focused on the root causes i.e. the imbalance of the system, not on the symptoms. Chinese medicine regards the human body as a whole unit, instead of a collection of individual parts. Hence the treatments are carried out by restoring the overall balance in the body, based on the ancient Yin-Yang balance, the Five Elements, the Meridian & Acupoints, and Qi theories.

Being a Chinese living in the UK, Erica gave herself the mission of equipping the UK general public with some basic knowledge and tips from Chinese medicine to help them keeping healthy in daily life. In addition to the clinic, Erica teaches well-being tips and exercises free of charge to the local community, including lifestyle advice, Qigong exercise, acupoints & meridian therapies, and moxibustion home-treatment.

Please check our blog page from time to time, as we will be posting some Chinese medicine therapeutical and lifestyle tips, as well as Chinese exercises and events. Let us all stay healthy naturally!

The well-being of single-living and emotionally isolated elderly is another group of people we care for as a CIC company. The idea was planted in 2015 after Erica watched a BBC documentary about the lives of the UK's single-living elderly, made by a charity called Silver Line. In there, it says 'Some of these elderly live behind the doors 24/7. Their only friends are the TV!' From then Erica set her mind to do something for this special group of vulnerable people. Similar to the NHS Shared Lives Scheme, Erica is opening up her own home, except that she is opening to the single-living and emotionally isolated elderly, and offering them a family and community environment with the backup of Chinese medicine. If you know anyone who could benefit from this model, please get in touch.

For the ones who wish to enjoy the rest of their lives at the Lotus, Erica will accompany them till the end of their journey just like her own parents. If they wish, Erica will lend them strength in completing this journey and preparing for the next, using her Buddhism understanding about the life and the universe.

At the later stage, if they become physically dependent, they can choose to employ â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹home-visitng carers at their own costs, or go to care homes at their own choice. If they stay in the house, Erica will overlook everything and make sure the carers don't neglect or abuse them. In short, Erica will always back them up and support them like their own children.

The elderly are not adivsed to sell their own properties. If they like, Erica can help to organise renting them out to improve their savings, or for them to move back one day in the future if they wish.

As a day-time activity at Lotus, Erica is welcoming single living elderly to come and share lunch and socialise with Erica and the others. Please enquire if you are interested.
